Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a common condition that causes heel pain. The plantar fascia is tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot. When this gets irritated, pain can occur. This condition can develop gradually or have an acute onset. It can involve one or both feet. Plantar fasciitis can happen to anyone, but it is more common in people who are on their feet for long periods of time.

Repetitive walking and jogging are risk factors for plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia tissue is repetitively stretched, which can lead to small tears, irritation, and pain. Symptoms are typically worse in the morning when you first get out of bed and with prolonged standing during the day.
